Cinch Cushion Bench
47” length x 23.5” width x 13” seat height (23” back height)
birch ply
Minimally designed to the likes of Donald Judd, this flat-packing bench made of birch plywood hosts 12 holes in its frame which facilitate a conceptual cushion attachment inspired by cable cinching typically applied to technical sporting gear.
This application works hand-in-hand with traditional button-tufted upholstery, yet the technique exposes the hardware by means of attachment, providing a secondary element that is at once intriguing and functional for modulating cushions and securing them to the bench’s frame.
Although still in production, these cushions will boast vibrant, saturated colors and likely come in a variety of basic geometric shapes to encourage interactivity with the user and contrast with the simplicity of the frame.
